Wat Sisaket

Wat Sisaket is located at the T-junction of Lanexang Avenue and Setthathirat Road, opposite of Hor Prakeo Museum and Presidential Palace in Vientiane.

Wat Sisaket was built in 1818 by King Anouvong (Chao Anouvong) and inaugurated in 1824. Wat Sisaket survived from the Thai sacking of the town 4 years later and it therefore the oldest temple in Vientiane and was rebuilt after destruction by the Siamese in 1828.

Inside of the Sim on the wall you will see several pictures which is depicting the Buddha’s life story. In the cloister of your right hand side is a rage or snake deity, 5m long, wooden trough carved to resemble. This is image watering rail (Hang Song Nam Pha) which is used during Lao New Year to pour the water over Buddha images for ritual cleaning.
